It is believed, that he bought the Smuts House in Britain, which was originally constructed there, and then later it was shipped to India. The building reached its final destination in 1909 at Doornkloof, where the Smuts family had lived many happy moments. Both the General and Mrs Smuts had died in this family home during the 1950s. Many parts of the house have been preserved in their original state, as it has been used by the family back in the day. Visitors may find interesting artefacts from the Smuts family, including dozens of original family photos, sculptures, beautiful and delicate china, vintage furniture, the Smuts’ personal library and many more. The Museum also has a few war machines exhibited from the World Wars.

The Monument has many great features, like the Cenotaph, the round floor opening, the 6-ton statues at the four corners, the breathtaking rooftop and interior view, the laager of 64 ox-wagons, a 20.000 seaters large amphitheatre, etc.
