Thanks to the ideal location of our guest house in Midrand, we are halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria. Consequently, you have easy and convenient access to a lot of exciting activities and adventures near Midrand. For example, golfing, horse riding, wakeboarding, game driving, indoor hockey or soccer, tree climbing, trampoline playgrounds, theme parks and water parks just to mention a few. Not to mention, the best thing about all of these adventures and activities is that they are all within a 45-minute drive away from our accommodation in Midrand.

Lory Park Zoo in Midrand
The Lory Park Animal Sanctuary is nicely tucked away in the suburb of President Park, Midrand. This sanctuary was opened 16 years ago, in the year 2000 as a bird park by the founder, Edward Philippus Van Eck. His aim was to build a bird park, which would have the largest collection of parrots in the southern hemisphere of the African continent. Later on, due to the fast development of corporate areas and the growth in human presence in Midrand, more and more injured animals were brought to the park looking for shelter. This is when the bird park eventually evolved into a bird and animal sanctuary.

Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve near Midrand
The Rietvlei Dam Municipal Nature Reserve is probably the best game adventure near Midrand. It is conveniently located about 30 minutes drive away from our Midrand guest house. The park offers several different activities to its visitors, including game drives, bird watching, freshwater fishing, hiking trails and even picnic sites. Read More
The reserve has a lion camp separated from the other wild animals, which makes the hiking trails much safer to walk, and also easier to find these big cats for the visitors.
