The largest mall ever built in a single stage construction in South Africa – The Mall of Africa

The big news in 2016 for all citizens in Midrand is the opening of the Mall of Africa. The largest shopping centre ever built in a single phase.

The Mall has been built on 130,000sqm and will accommodate over 300 stores, restaurants, entertainment and a cinema complex. The 2.4 kilometres of shopfront and the actual construction site of approx. 78 rugby fields the Mall by far will be the largest Mall in South Africa. The developers aim is to open on 28th April 2016, however minor delays are anticipated.

Shoppers will find a wide variety of locally and internationally known brands such as Checkers, Edgars, Game, Woolworths, Mr Price and Truworths, Armani Exchange, Helly Hansen, Asics, Zara Home, The Kooples, Under Armour, Mango Man, women’secret and many more.
The shopping mall will also feature a beautiful outside park with a dedicated area for kid’s playground. The developers focused on using many eco-friendly solutions so they will aim to make the building as ‘green’ as possible. They invested in the largest solar-panel installation on the roof, providing sustainable power for shops and inside facilities. The centre also uses a grey-water recycling system to maintain the water supply for all public toilets.
The latest advanced technology has been used to complete this masterpiece, the Mall of Africa will surely point us towards the future of shopping experience.

The impact of this magnificent Mall to the Midrand area still remains for us to find out though. Is it going to cause further traffic problems locally? Is it going to boost the economy of the surrounding area? Can the residents in Midrand expect people to travel from far and wide looking for accommodation only to experience the new and shiny Mall?
